Future Plans

Feature Image

We have plans for two major capital projects during the next four years:

  • A complete redevelopment of Shimna Valley in Newcastle.
  • A much-needed Regional Youth Cancer Support Centre in Belfast.

At present, Shimna Valley can accommodate 3 to 4 families at any one time. However, as statistics continue to rise and another three children, teenagers or young adults are diagnosed with cancer every week in Northern Ireland, demand for our services has never been greater.

More relaxing retreat

In 2012, we plan to rebuild a bigger, better and more relaxing retreat for our families. The ambitious new building will offer six luxurious bedroom suites, each with an adjoining door through to a second twin bedroom so families can remain close, or can become fully engaged through the communal lounge, dining and play areas.

The new facilities will be tailored to suit the needs identified by families themselves and will house therapy suites offering a range of holistic, complimentary treatments as well as quiet areas, verandas and landscaped gardens.

Youth Cancer Support Centre

We’re also putting plans together for a unique new Regional Youth Cancer Support Centre which will be located between Belfast’s two main cancer hospitals. The purpose-built centre will stand as the ‘Gateway to Belfast’ and will house the charity’s headquarters, together with an impressive range of facilities and services which will support young people during their treatment for cancer.
