How We Can Help
Financial Assistance
Financial insecurity is one of the most immediate pressures placed on a family when a child or young person is diagnosed with cancer. Often, one parent will have to give up work to care for their son or daughter, resulting in a drop in the family’s income.
At NICFC, we are committed to providing financial assistance to families and young people over 18 years old through three grant-based schemes. Financial support is available for up to two years post-diagnosis.
Road Miles
Is our grant-based scheme offering financial assistance to families or young people to help with the cost of travelling to and from hospital. Road Miles is paid every 12 weeks and families or young adults are entitled to claim for a total of 8 payments while receiving treatment.
Home Heating
Is an annual allowance of £200 to help with the cost of heating the family home during treatment. Home Heating can be claimed during or post-treatment where a child, teenager or young adult is at home full-time as a result of their cancer.
Travel For Treatment
Is a one off payment of £500 given to families and young people who have to travel outside of Northern Ireland for treatment or surgery. It can only be paid upon confirmation of the date of travel outside NI for treatment or surgery.
Some Extra Information
- None of the above grants are means tested.
- Home Heating is offered through a voucher scheme.
- Payment for Road Miles and Travel for Treatment will be made by BACS.
