Most folks celebrate birthdays with parties and presents, or a luxury trip abroad but not Peter Fleming! Peter has set himself the marathon task of competing in forty running events to mark hitting his fortieth year to raise money for Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC).
Having been bit by the running bug six years ago, Peter’s passion for running has raced ahead taking inspiration from Eddie Izzard during his own epic marathon challenge. The starting horn blasted on New Year’s Day 2012 and the following 366 days will see Peter taking part in running events of all sizes and shapes from 5Ks to ultra marathons, and multi-sport events. The Virgin London Marathon falls on Peter’s actual 40th birthday.
To donate to Peter’s fantastic challenge and raise valuable money for NICFC please visit: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PeterRunsFortyAtForty, and you can keep up to date with Peter’s running adventures at peterrunsfortyatforty.blogspot.com.
As Baz Luhrmann says, “The race is long, and in the end it’s only with yourself” so why not take a leaf from Peter’s new year page and set yourself a target to run towards! NICFC are looking for novices, amateurs and professionals of all shapes to join them for the Belfast City Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May 2012. Click here for more information. Or if you fancy running further afoot why not take on the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday 4th November 2012. Click here for details on this iconic event.
