Make a Change this Christmas for NICFC!

EUROSPAR AND ViVOxtra stores ask shoppers to donate their loose change

Christmas is generally regarded as a time of cheer and merriment, but for many families across Northern Ireland, it can be a difficult time, as they deal with the devastating effects of cancer. It is for this reason that, EUROSPAR and ViVOxtra stores across the province are launching, their first-ever Christmas fundraising initiative in partnership with Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children; ‘Make A Change this Christmas’.

Running from Monday 12th to Sunday 18th December, all stores will be asking shoppers to donate their loose change towards the charity to help raise much-needed funds.

Todd Vance, (aged nine) from Dundonald is currently in treatment for cancer and along with his younger brother Carter, helped launch this year’s campaign. It is Todd’s courage and determination to beat the disease that has inspired this initiative, which will help raise funds to continue supporting his family and many others.

Earlier this year EUROSPAR and ViVOXtra stores announced the launch of their new charity partnership, with Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children, which will support the Family Programme throughout 2011 and 2013.

The Family Programme operates across NI to provide support to the families of young people living with cancer and to help them build coping skills. This can include emotional support in the home as well as practical help through the Family Support Service and bereavement support for those who have lost a child to cancer. The Family Team also organises a variety of fun events throughout the year where the whole family can enjoy time together away from the hospital.

Stephen Hamilton, Channel Sales Manager for Supermarkets at Henderson Wholesale said:

“This Christmas we would like to urge our shoppers to dig deep and donate as much as they can towards the charity. The initiative is very simple and every penny can make a real difference. We have been astounded by the amazing work this charity does for hundreds of families across Northern Ireland, giving vital support and respite. As community-based retailers, we feel it is essential to raise much-needed funds for the charity, in order to help them continue carrying out this amazing work.”

Joanne McCallister, Fundraising Manager for NICFC adds:

“Every week in Northern Ireland another three children, teenagers or young adults are diagnosed with cancer.  For these young people and their families life will change dramatically.  As a local children charity we receive less than 1% Government Funding and rely on the generosity of charity partners like EUROSPAR and ViVOxtra, and their customers to support services like our Family Programme.  Every penny counts and we hope shoppers will give what they can this Christmas.”

Shoppers will be able to donate their loose change at till point’s in-store, through the fundraising week (Monday 12th – Sunday 18th December).  Look out in store for moredetails.
