Slieve Donard Climb – update on another great success for NICFC

They came, they saw, they conquered! Sunday 28th August 2011 saw 89 courageous folks brave the interchangeable weather to take on the Slieve Donard Climb for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children (NICFC). Everyone faced the challenge and pushed themselves as far up Northern Ireland’s highest peak as they could, with many reaching the golden (or rather rain cloud covered) peak!

Aidan O'Neill bench picBryn Cunningham ex fullback for Ulster Rugby supported the event by donning his walking boots and leading the way, “When I saw an opportunity to climb Slieve Donard while at the same time supporting such a worthwhile charity as NICFC I jumped at the chance! It was great fun meeting lots of people, each with different motivations for climbing and the elation of getting to the top and that sense of achievement was hugely satisfying. I would recommend it to anyone!

The great climbing adventure kick started bright and early in the morning, and all participants made it safely back down the mountain to share their climbing adventure stories over a well-deserved BBQ.

We are delighted to tell you that the current total is over £13,000, with plenty of money still being donated. This staggering amount is absolutely fantastic! A massive thank you to everyone who took part! We are overwhelmed by the support and involvement of people throughout the six counties for this event. These vital funds will help NICFC support the families in our community living with cancer – the tired feet and sore legs are well worth it! Thank you!
